New Delhi: Basant Panchami:  Today is Basant Panchami. The festival of Basant Panchami is celebrated with great pomp in North India. It is believed that Saraswati, the goddess mother of Vidya was born on this day, therefore, Saraswati Puja is celebrated on this day. Saraswati is considered the goddess of knowledge, art and music. There is a deep faith in this festival of Hindus. On this day bath has special significance in the holy rivers.

This festival is also important for the farmers, because the mustard fields rise on Basant Panchami. Chana, barley, jowar and wheat earrings begin to be eaten. Spring begins from this day. Although there are six seasons in India , but the spring is called the king of seasons. During this time the weather becomes pleasant and new fruits and flowers start to grow in the trees.

The festival marks the arrival of Spring season and is celebrated with great fervour across the country. On this auspicious day, may Goddess Sarasvati bless everyone with knowledge, wisdom…,” Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu wrote on Twitter.
